Pram Single-Person Sailboats

Enjoy a focused lesson for 1-2 sailors with one of our certified sailing instructors. Lessons are a great fit for those sailors who benefit from one-on-one instruction, and those who want to build confidence and skills outside of camp hours. These are also a great way to try out sailing for sailors who are unsure about camp participation.

Our staff will work with you to develop a lesson that best meets the needs of your sailor(s). Please reach out if you have specific requests, learning challenges, or anything else our staff should be aware of prior to your lesson.

Teen Lesson

12 - 18 Years

FJ or c420 Double-Handed Sailboats

Enjoy a focused lesson for 1-2 sailors with one of our certified sailing instructors. Lessons are a great fit for those sailors who benefit from one-on-one instruction, and those who want to build confidence and skills outside of camp hours. These are also a great way to try out sailing for sailors who are unsure about camp participation. 

Please note that Teen lessons utilize double-handed (two person) boats. For a one person lesson, your instructor will sail in the boat with your student. For a two person lesson, the instructor will facilitate from a coach boat.

Family & Friends Lesson

4 Years - 100

Available June - September at Ancich Park

Lesson for 1 to 4 sailors on a Martin 244 Sailboat. Children are welcome to join for family lessons. If you do not have properly fitting PFDs, please contact us ahead of time to ensure PFDs are available.

Family and Friends lessons offer the opportunity to sail with an instructor, and focus on the skills you most want to develop.

Summer Camp classes are designed to provide an age appropriate introduction to sailing. Our small class sizes and experienced staff create a great space for learning

Monday - Friday from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Our Jellyfish program offers a great space to build comfort in sailboats. Sailors will learn basic boating concepts and go sailing each day with a staff member. This program is a great fit for younger sailors and sailors who want to gain confidence and comfort before sailing on their own.

Classes focus on:

  • Learning sailing concepts through activities and games 
  • Developing basic water safety skills
  • Building comfort on boats
  • Basic sailing vocabulary
  • Basic rigging and steering skills
  • Sailing with an instructor

Jellyfish classes are held in c420's at our Wollochet Bay location only. Please check class locations carefully during registration.

Youth

This camp is specially designed for youth ages 8-12. We focus on having fun, learning and developing great friendships. Camp is for those with basic to no boating or sailing experience. The goal is to help campers become competent with sailing skills.

Classes focus on:

  • Sail independently in Cubes and O’pen Skiffs
  • Developing basic water safety skills
  • Learning to tack, gibe, steer, and trim
  • Knot tying
  • Learning unique sailing vocabulary

Youth classes are held in Prams and O'pen Skiffs at West Shore Marina, and Prams and Optis at Wollochet Bay. Please check class location carefully.

Opti Intermediate

Monday - Friday from 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM

This camp is designed for sailors who have successfully completed Youth camp, and who have been recommended by their instructors to advance to an Intermediate level. Opti Intermediate sailors enjoy a week of building skills to prepare for the Opti Race Team program. The purpose of these camps is to provide advanced sailing skills.

Class will focus on:

  • Basic racing skills
  • Advanced rigging and tuning
  • Advanced sail trim and steering
  • Rules of racing
  • Introduction to practice drills and format
  • Teamwork and cooperation

Opti Intermediate classes are held in Optis at our West Shore Marina location only. Please check class location carefully.

This camp is designed for campers who have successfully completed Youth or Teen camp, and who have been recommended by their instructors to advance to an Intermediate level. The purpose of these camps is to provide advanced sailing skills.

  • Rules of racing
  • Rounding marks
  • Teamwork and cooperation

Teen classes are held in FJ's at West Shore Marina. Please check class location carefully.

Teen Advanced

NOT FOR BEGINNERS OR INTERMEDIATE SAILORS

Monday - Friday from 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM 

$525 - Scholarships Available

This camp is designed for campers who have successfully completed Youth or Teen Intermediate camp, and who have been recommended by their instructors to move to an Advanced level. The purpose of these camps is to develop advanced skills in racing sailboat classes, including Club 420's and ILCA Sailboats.

Classes focus on:

  • Advanced boat handling & techniques
  • In C420's: Spinnaker & trapeze work
  • In ILCA's: Advanced sail trim and tuning
  • Teamwork and cooperation

Advanced camps are held at our TYC Wollochet Bay facility this year. Check the week you sign up for carefully - different boat types are used for each one!

Why Sailing?

Sailing is an excellent way to build leadership, self-reliance, and confidence for kids. Our sailors come back year after year to see friends, enjoy the outdoors, and have an adventure. Many sailors go on to participate in our race team programs, and become staff members.
